Floyd Mayweather is the most talented, Manny Pacquiao is the best – Nazim Richardson

Respected boxing trainer Nazim Richardson reckons that the five-division world champion, Floyd Mayweather junior, the current WBO Welterweight Champion, is the most talented but eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, the current WBC Welterweight Champion, remains the best pound-for-pound fighter in the division.

“Pound-for-pound, Floyd is the most talented, but pound-for-pound Pacquiao is the best fighter in boxing,” Richardson said.

The undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who holds a perfect record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is set to face Miguel Cotto, the reigning WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion, on May 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pacquiao on the other hand will take on the current WBO Light Welterweight Champion and former two-time WBC Light Welterweight Champion, Timothy Bradley, on June 9 at the same MGM arena.

However, not many out there are excited about these two fights because Mayweather-Pacquiao is a fight which boxing fans anxiously wants to see but unfortunately it has not been made as of yet and Richardson thinks even if it happens now, there won’t be much excitement.

While taking on his inclusion, Richardson stated, Mayweather and Pacquiao will have to present a fight better than Marvin Hagler-Thomas Hearns fight, which was declared ‘Fight of the Year’ by the Ring Magazine in 1985.

“(For) me, waiting this long to see these two guys fight, there is nothing they can do to satisfy me now,” he said.

“For them to satisfy me in a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, then it’s got to be better than (Marvin) Hagler and (Thomas) Hearns,” he added.

“(Mayweather vs Pacquiao) has got to be better than Hagler and Hearns,” Richardson said. “If it ain’t better than Hagler-Hearns, it’s a letdown to me.”

“I got to wait six years to see two dudes fight, and I get a chess match? You can keep that. I ain’t even interested anymore,” he added.

Well, all said and done, let’s see if Mayweather and Pacquiao will ever meet each other in the ring.
