No friendly opposition anymore: PML-N giving tough time to PPP
Monday, April 30th, 2012 11:11:51 by Faisal FarooqOpposition Leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan reiterated his stance, saying the party would spearhead a strong protest if the convicted Prime Minister tried to attend the house.
Earlier, he challenged the premier after his conviction, daring the treasury benches to bring the prime minister to the National Assembly.
Although Gilani did not attend the session on Thursday evening, but taking advantage of the absence of a majority of PML-N’s members, attended Friday’s session briefly and delivered a speech in which he castigated PML-N’s policy and challenged the opposition to bring a no-trust motion against him.
In the latest remarks, Chaudhry Nisar said on Sunday the premier had come to the house only after getting information that most of PML-N’s legislators were not present in the house.
Criticizing National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza for allowing the prime minister to speak during the question hour, he observed, “We are here and the arena too. They will find us there in tomorrow’s session”.
They would announce their plan of action after a joint meeting in Islamabad on Monday of its central working committee and parliamentary group which would be presided over by Nawaz Sharif, he added.
Replying to query, the Opposition Leader said its movement was not for sending the government home, but for implementation of the court’s ruling. They were not interested in bringing no-confidence motion against the convicted premier, he added.
He also responded allegation of the money laundering leveled by Interior Minister Rehman Malik against the Sharif Brothers, saying there was nothing new in them.
The Opposition Leader said most of the cases about which Rehman Malik was talking were 15 to 18 years old and were pending before the courts, adding the PML-N had itself approached the courts in some cases to make the things clear.
During the press conference, he constantly used the term swindler for Rehman Malik, claiming the minister had a stinking reputation even in his own party. In his view, it is below his dignity to respond to Malik’s each and every allegation.
He challenged he would quit politics if Rehman Malik succeeded in making the said letter public.
