Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani reiterated on Sunday that prime minister from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would ever write a letter to the Swiss bank authorities to reopen corruption cases against the PPP co-chairperson and the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
Speaking to a group of lawyers, which called upon the PM at his Lahore residence on Sunday, Gilani said that only the parliament has the right to decide his fate as prime minister, insisting that he would not step down due to any political pressure or to fulfil anyone’s wishes.
Gilani also said that various political and non-political elements were conspiring against him and made it clear that he would not surrender to any conspiracies.
According to Pakistan People’s Party sources, a committee headed by Law minister Farooq H. Naek has been formed for moving an appeal before the Supreme Court over the prime minister’s conviction. The committee comprising Governor Punjab Lateef Khan Khosa, barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, Fawad Chaudhry advocate, Adviser to PM, and Mahreen Anwar Raja would contemplate over various options to be mentioned in the appeal against Gilani’s conviction.
Gilani also took a dig at the PML-N chief, Nawaz Sharif saying until the detailed verdict was announced, the former premier should keep his wishes suppressed. Calling Nawaz Sharif a confused person, the PM said that he was confusing the politics as well. “I will actively reciprocate any kind of politics,” maintained Yusuf Raza Gilani.
Meanwhile, a delegation of lawyers also called upon Governor Punjab Latif Khosa and Law Minister Farooq H Naek and assured their complete support to the prime minister and held the view that he would complete his constitutional term. A seven-member delegation of the German media also held a meeting with Governor Latif Khosa and discussed PM’s conviction case.
