I am sticking with my stance; says defiant Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani
Monday, April 30th, 2012 9:50:03 by Faisal FarooqPrime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, who was convicted of contempt by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, once again struck a defiant remark about his firmness in defying the rulings.
While speaking to a delegation of Lahore-based Lawyers, the defiant premier observed, “No prime minister from Pakistan People’s Party would write a letter to the authorities in Switzerland to seek reopening of graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari”.
Earlier, the apex court convicted him for his refusal to comply with an order of the apex court which asked the government to write to the Swiss authorities to reopen cases against President Asif Ali Zardari following the nullification of the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
Reiterating his decision to file an appeal against his conviction in contempt of court case, saying there is no such law exists in the country. He, however, said disqualifying him as chief executive was right of parliament, which is supreme institution of the country.
The premier reacted sharply to calls from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for him to resign from his post, he challenged the party to bring a no-confidence movement against him in the House
Gilani raised a question about mental condition of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, saying he was confused and was not confusing the politics too. He observed, “Nawaz should keep his wishes to himself, as he would not resign to fulfill someone’s wishes”.
Claiming that the PML-N chief was the first person to sign the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), questioning the law under which he was allowed to go into self-exile.
He commented, “I am utterly disappointed with the PML-N for what it has been doing after the court’s verdict. The PML-N is misleading the people, but we will not let it succeed. We have always taken the PML-N along and accommodated it, but it always stabbed us in our back whenever it got an opportunity”.
The premier also said that the PPP, through constitutional amendments, had lifted the condition of becoming prime minister for the third time, primarily as desired by Nawaz Sharif.
