First round of Ivy Bridge processors commences – Part 2

On the other hand, the CPU found in Origin had a 2.9GHz Core i7-3920XM processor. Both of the devices were tested turn-by-turn.
Multi-tasking is one of main issues that both PC manufacturers and end users raise. There should be freedom to open as many applications and work on as many of them simultaneously as the user wants. The new Ivy Bridge laptop boast an eight-way multi threading, which on paper looks to be more efficient.
Five articles of Core i7 processors were tried in the multimedia multi-tasking, two of them were Ivy Bridge-based. Origin’s processor fielded the most efficient results by completing the tasks in 295 seconds. Asus secured second position with 299 seconds. Last year’s models included Intel Core i7-2670QM and Core i7-2630QM. There results were 389 and 419, respectively.
The standard Adobe Photoshop CS5 image-processing test was again won by Origin, closely trailed by Asus. They completed the task in 129 and 147 seconds. Core i7-2670QM and 2630QM followed with 173 and 181 seconds.
Intel claims that Ivy Bridge’s Intel HD 4000 graphics offer up to double the performance compared with last year’s Sandy Bridge integrated graphics. The results varied by game, but it did seem to hold true that the Intel HD 4000 graphics were markedly improved. Even more impressively, they held their own against Nvidia GeForce 540M graphics.
On high 1,920×1,080 resolution, the Origin churned the highest frames per second rate at 20.3 in graphics-intensive game, Metro 2033.
Intel claims that Ivy Bridge laptops are more power efficient than last year’s versions but the difference in battery timing on Ivy Bridge and Sandy Bridge was marginal though was in Ivy Bridge’s favour. More accurate verdict can only be issued when more Ivy Bridge processors are tested.
