Joanna Maranhao and Leonardo de Deus win gold medal – Maria Lenk Trophy

Joanna Maranhao and Leonardo de Deus won gold medals of the 200m butterfly in Women and Men’s category on fifth day of the 2012 Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Firstly, Maranhao spoiled the party of her competitors by snaring gold medal of the event by producing a time of 2 minutes and 09.62 seconds.

Maranhao was chased by Yana Cleris Medeiros, who remained nearly eight seconds behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 17.09 seconds for silver medal.

Medeiros was trailed by Larissa Freitas Cieslak, who was full body length behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.08 seconds.

Fourth position of the event was secured by Isabelle Franca Longo, who stayed marginally away from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 18.43 seconds.

The fifth spot of the event was obtained by Giovanna Dorigon, who stayed considerably slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 22.29 seconds.

Following that, Deus outperformed his competitors by occupying gold medal of the equivalent event by submitting a time of 1 minute and 55.70 seconds.

The gold medallist was followed by Kaio Marcio de Almeida, who stayed nearly full body length behind and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 56.51 seconds.

Almeida remained almost four seconds faster from Arthur Mendes Filho, who occupied bronze medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.78 seconds.

Filho was trailed by Frederico Veloso Castro, who secured fourth position of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 01.02 seconds.

Fifth position of the event was Iran Almeida, who stayed half body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.90 seconds.

In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events whereas the position holders were awarded medals and accolades for their impressive performances after the session.
