Disney announce ‘Avengers’ sequel
Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 4:44:56 by Waqas TariqDisney have announced the sequel to their blockbuster hit film ‘Avengers’. The film has been a huge success since its release earlier this month in the United States and had an opening weekend of over $200 million.
Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the sequel is well on the cards after the sensational success of the first film. He insisted that it would be silly for Disney not to go ahead for the sequel considering the hype the first part has left with.
“The success of the film is a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Stan Lee, the former chairman of Marvel, expressed his delight on the success of the film and admitted that he is surprised on how some of the other characters have become so popular among the audiences.
“Oh, I’d be happy if they add Black Panther and maybe Dr Strange. Those two and probably Ant-Man, which I think they are working on. Maybe I’ll play a little role in that. I never imagined I’d see any of my characters become movies. I’m amazed that DC didn’t beat us to it with the Justice League. But you’ve got to hand it to Marvel,” Lee added.
On the other hand, Scarlett Johansson, who plays the character of the Black Widow has admitted that she would love to do the origin story. She insisted that it is a strong story and would make into a great movie concept.
“I hope that the fans’ voice is loud enough and they want to see a Widow origin story, I know Marvel would be happy to entertain that. We’ve spoken a lot about it,” she added.
The Avengers sequel will only be released after Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2.
