Lower Trestles has is renowned for its flawless waves. Looking to test their skills against some of the best surfers from around the globe, a huge field of local and international surfers gathered at the event site on Tuesday to take each other in four-man battles. The clean two-to-four foot waves breaking at the beach were quite promising, giving a handful of opportunities to the surfers to show off their moves.
The seventh heat of Round 3 featured a four-man bout featuring Knox, Young, France’s Vincent Duvignac and South Africa’s Brandon Jackson.
All four surfers were pretty determined to kick-off their skirmish for the prestigious event title on a good note, thus pushing themselves hard to try and post good scores on the score-board.

Young got off to a promising start, scoring a 6.17 off the very first wave that he caught in the heat. However, he failed to back it up with another good score and just managed to add an additional 5.87 points to his account for a heat-total of 12.04 points. The runner-up finish was enough to get him into the next round though.
Duvignac finished third with a two-wave total of 10.67 points, while Jackson scored a 3.00 and 4.20 off his best-two waves for a heat-total of 7.20 points. Both the surfers failed to move into the fourth round as a result of their bottom-two finish.
