PML-N’s long march treason against federation: PM Gilani

Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, who was convicted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, said no province could launch a long-march against the federal government, terming it unconstitutional and saying it would amount to be treason.

While making his appearance to ‘Prime Minister Online’, the joint telecast by private TV channel and state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV), he said he hadn’t write letter to the Swiss authorities in the light of recommendations received from the Ministry of Law and Justice.

Referring to the announcement of PML (N) to launch a movement‚ the Prime Minister said being the ruling party in Punjab how can the provincial government can launch agitation against the federal government as this would be mutiny and against the constitution.

About long march announced by the Punjab government, Prime Minister Gilani said such act could be declared as treason as it would be a step of the provincial government against the federal government. He observed, “It is totally unacceptable”.

He referred to the attitude of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders, saying they had no principles in its politics. Without any justifications, the PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are making statements, the premier added.

He commented, “I have full support of all the coalition partners and the long march will not be supported by other political parties”.

While replying to a query about the accomplishments of the incumbent government in the present regime, he said the biggest achievement of his government was the revival of the 1973 Constitution in its original shape.

He also took credit of the NFC (National Finance Commission) award, which provided more rights to the provinces besides granting more autonomy to the federating units.

Furthermore, he said that his government gave self-empowerment to Gilgit-Baltistan and freedom to the media while BISP was making efforts to end general poverty in the country.

He was mentally prepared to go to Adiala prison when he was summoned the Supreme Court of Pakistan for the third time in contempt of court case. In his view, the entire process was completed within few minutes and punishment lasted only for five to six seconds.

The premier said his previous interview in which he assured to quit his post in case of conviction, was done without consolation with his legal team.
