Fabiola Pulga Molina and Thiago Machado Pereira captured gold medal of the 100m backstroke in Women and Men’s category on fifth day of the Maria Lenk Trophy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Molina stunned the crowd by winning gold medal of the double lap event with the timing of 1 minute and 00.74 seconds. Her effort remained comfortably ahead of her following swimmer, Laura Manaudou, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting
a time of 1 minute and 01.02 seconds.
Manaudou remained more than a body length ahead of Carolina Colorado Henao, who snared bronze medal of the discipline by posting a time of 1 minute and 02.34 seconds.
Henao was trailed by Natalia Mendes Diniz, who secured fourth position of the event by hitting the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 03.08 seconds.
Diniz was trailed by Etiene Pires Medeiros, who secured fifth position of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 04.19 seconds.
She remained 0.33 seconds ahead of Fernanda Nunes Alvarenga, who finished her swim in sixth place by posting a time of 1 minute and 04.52 seconds.
Following that, Pereira outshined his challengers for the title of equivalent event in Men’s corner. With his commendable effort, he remained considerably ahead of his challengers as he posted a time of 53.86 seconds.
He was followed by Eugene Daisuhe Godsoe, who stayed almost half body length behind and secured silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 54.57 seconds.
Third spot of the race was secured by Daniel Orzechowski, who stayed marginally slower and clocked a time of 54.69 seconds.
He was chased by Leonardo Guedes, who settled on the finishing end for fourth position with an effort of 55.25 seconds.
Guedes remained 0.10 seconds faster from Fernando Ernesto Pires Do, who posted a time of 55.35 seconds for fifth place.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category while the position holders collected their medals after the session.
