Industry reshaping with the release of Ivy Bridge, Windows 8 and NVIDIA graphics – Part 2

Moreover, PC makers like Samsung, Lenovo, Dell and HP have ultrabooks, all-in-one desktops and notebooks that will have touch screen displays to take most benefit from the operating system’s interface.

Win 8 also runs around graphics as the new interface is made tablet oriented shaving off the traditional window-interface from applications. This brings more animation to multi-tasking and more graphics to the apps, which in other words means a more rigorous GPU. The Intel Ivy Bridge though has it all covered with the most intensive GPU, HD4000, integrated into the processor.

However, that does not hold companies like NVIDIA to build robust graphic cards. NVIDIA released a couple of dedicated GPUs this year. One of them is for desktops and the other is for laptops. The new GeForce GTX 680 for desktops will soon start showing up in high-end boutique gaming desktops, and the GeForce 640M for laptops will appear in some unexpected places, including thin ultrabook-style systems, such as the upcoming Acer M3 Ultra.

The year 2012 is expected to witness the unexpected with inventions and innovations from the likes of Intel, Microsoft and NVIDIA. The PC industry might see some major changes this year at an unprecedented rate, changing the competition altogether. Ultrabooks will get slimmer and more efficient, whereas a number of desktops will transform into all-in-one machines permanently. Notebooks from mid- to high-end range, will become thinner regardless of Ultrabook moniker.

Most importantly all of the aforementioned devices will become energy efficient with longer battery lives, which is one of the major problems in mobile devices like tablets, notebooks and smartphones, for that matter.
