The ratio of techology companies fell in the Mobile World Capital
Monday, May 7th, 2012 11:44:20 by Farasat AliBarcelona is said to attract technology companies with regards to mobile telephones during this decade. But until that happens, from 2013, the city and the whole of Catalonia are undergoing an opposite route. Whether because of
the crisis or the process of concentration in a very fragmented sector in recent years, reducing the number of companies in information technology and communication technology (ICT).
Last year, the figure fell by 1.6%, according to the National Statistics Institute , a development that was also maintained in 2009 and 2010."I dare not say that we have hit bottom," Ginés Alarcón, president of the Foundation CTecno and CEO of the Mobile World
Capital (MWC) was quoted as saying.
Alarcon revealed that the environment in the sector is optimistic and with a hope of positive evolution despite the reduction of companies and the fall of workers employed in the sector (5.5% in 2009) and although the development of turnover also dropped. According
to a survey made by CTecno professionals and companies in the ICT sector, the environment has improved in the last year.
One element that contributes to improved optimism is precisely the fact that Barcelona has secured the capital of the mobile from 2013 to 2018, after years of being the seat of Mobile World Congress, the industry’s most prestigious hall. Alarcon has said that
excessive fragmentation, with very small businesses, is a risk to the competitiveness of the Catalan. CTecno believes that, given that structure, it should be intensified to cover large business alliances and internationalization operations in new markets
such as Latin America.
In any case, the fulcrum of the Catalan companies should be located in its own market. According to the analysis of the establishment, implementation and use of information technology and communication in Catalonia "is not fully exploited."
