Delivering a scathing riposte to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on protest demonstrations against him, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani called on the party to resign from assemblies.

While speaking to the media, the defiant premier asked Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan and President PML-Q Nawaz Sharif to develop a better understanding of the constitution before embarking upon protest and extending support to the judiciary.

He described the PML-N’s street protests as realpolitik, challenging them to quit the assemblies and he would announce snap polls.

He observed, “If the PML-N leadership has courage, they should ask their lawmakers to resign from the assemblies en bloc and I will announce by-polls the same day”.

Accusing the two parties of inciting street agitation through their actions, he reminded that the two were violating the Constitution of Pakistan.

The prime minister asserted that the opposition’s hue and cry could not impress the masses saying, “There is no need for support from the opposition or the provincial governments to implement the Supreme Court’s orders”.

He said he and President Asif Ali Zardari who faced former military rulers Pervez Musharraf without dare and courage while Sharif Brothers fled to Jeddah after making a deal with the dictator.

He vowed that the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leadership would do the same, whenever needed, and the Sharif brothers would again flee the country. He called upon the PML-N leadership to offer apology for concealing their agreement with Pervez Musharraf and hiding reality over a decade.

Laughing at the PML-N’s rally in Taxila, the prime minister claimed that his son can stage bigger for them.

In his view, the opposition ought to move a no-confidence motion in parliament if it wanted to unseat him.

Gilani urged that he could not be forced to relinquish his post asserting, “Nobody can remove me from my office through any undemocratic or unconstitutional method as there is a constitutional procedure for the removal of a prime minister”.

Rejecting his previous statement, he said Speaker National Assembly Dr. Fehmida Mirza will decide his fate even if the apex court disqualifies him in its detailed judgment.
