What 2012 iteration of iPhone should bring to the table? – Part 3

4G LTE

Now that the new iPad offers 4G LTE over AT&T and Verizon, it can be said that Apple will incorporate the same tech in the new iPhone. The 2011 models is HSPA+-enabled, which for some reason AT&T is marketing as 4G. The new iPhone is expected to take the technology up a notch to faster and more efficient LTE.

NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor does not support LTE, that is why every US version of a smartphone—that has quad-core processor else where—is a dual-core handset. Since Apple makes their own processor called the A-series, it is expected that the new phone will be quad-core and LTE-enabled.

Moreover, the GPU is also anticipated to receive a bump to quad-core brains, like the new iPad.

Graphics

iPhone boasts the most responsive G-sensor and Gyroscope, in addition to the accelerometer. This is one of the reasons why the handset comes neck-and-neck with portable gaming consoles. In some cases, it is preferred on such gaming consoles. However, the 3D graphics are expected to lag behind as more and more graphics-intensive games are emerging.

The main suggestion in this regard is that Apple should bring an upgraded 3D graphics processor to the phone to cater to gaming segment, which accounts for a big chunk in the market.
