Responsibility on me and Jacques Kallis, says Gautam Gambhir

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has said that being the most experienced guys in the side, he and Jacques Kallis carry a lot responsibility in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Knight Riders have many heavy weight players in the batting line-up, such as Brendon McCullum and Yusuf Pathan. However, Gambhir was not reluctant to say that he cannot ask his stroke-makers to change their game, instead it is his and Kallis’ responsibility
to take the side to the playoffs.

"If someone has to change the game, it should be Kallis or me. We don’t want [Brendon] McCullum or Yusuf Pathan to change their game. It’s our responsibility because we are the experienced guys," Gambhir said.

"You don’t want them to stop playing their natural game. The guys like me and Kallis need to change the game and that is what responsibility and experience is all about."

Gambhir is Kolkata’s leading run-getter so far in the tournament. He continued his good run with the bat in a crucial match against Delhi Daredevils on Monday.

Chasing 154, Gambhir provided his side a terrific start by adding quick 36 runs to the total. The top-order batsmen performed magnificently to steer Kolkata to an easy six-wicket win against the Daredevils.

The Knight Riders are currently on the top of points table. The classy left-hander does not want his teammates to be complacent, adding that every game is important in such a competitive competition.

He added, "For me, every game is tough and important. When I go onto the field, I just want to win the match. It’s not about competing in the IPL, it’s about winning every time. I always look to win matches because you don’t want to go back to the dressing
room on a losing note.”

"We have some quality players in the dressing room. Someone like Kallis, who is such a legend of the game. Brendon McCullum and Brett Lee are also there. When you have such players, you don’t need to motivate them. They all are thorough professionals."
