Ekta Kapoor files a complaint against Veena Malik’s Dirty Picture
Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 12:42:18 by Imran Shaukat KhanEkta Kapoor’s ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released last year on December 10, rocked at the box office and bagged many awards and complements. However, the Kannada remake of the film, directed by Trishul, has made Kapoor extremely unhappy so much so that she has filed a case against the film.
The Tamil version of the film, which will star Pakistani controversial queen Veena Malik in the lead role, has been titled as ‘Dirty Picture: Silk Sakkath Maga’ and reportedly Ekta is not happy with it.
As per the reports, Ekta Kapoor, who produced Vidya Balan starrer super hit ‘The Dirty Picture’ in Hindi under her banner Balaji Telefilms, has written a letter to the president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), in which she has requested him to withdraw the permission for the use of the title by Venkatappa.
Nevertheless, Trishul is completely unnerved with everything going on around him even when Ekta has given him a dead-line of only five days.
Talking to a daily, he said, “There is no bar on keeping a title of any other language film to be made in a different language. There are several precedents before. We have a Kannada film called Housefull (title inspired by Hindi movie) and Bhadra (Telugu title). We have legally obtained clearance from the KFCC. Why should we change the title now?”
Trishul further added that his film is totally different from the one which Ekta produced last year.
“The title may just remind the viewer of a Hindi film with the same name. That is all. My story is original and realistic. It does not have even an iota of similarity with the Hindi film,” said Trishul who has written the story and screenplay for the film.
Well, let’s wait and watch if Trishul really gets any legal notice or not.
