Telefonica launches new application
Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 7:03:32 by Farasat AliTelefonica has decided to make a deal with popular services such as Skype and WhatsApp to facilitating the sending of messages and free calls over the phone. The Spanish operator launches “TU me”, a free application
that allows mobile users to exchange text messages and voice calls, and share photos or information about their location.
To do this, they just need to have a smartphone (high-end phone) with an Internet connection, either via Wi-Fi or 3G, mobile data plan. And although the application is developed by Digital Telephone is a service
platform and multi-operator, i.e., compatible with all types of terminals and valid for communication between subscribers of different companies.
The iPhone application is available for system (IOS) in the Apple App Store (App Store) and soon be ready for Android, Google’s operating system.
This is the first launched Digital Phone service directly to consumers and the first time that the Spanish operator is providing a product worldwide, not only in countries where it operates.
The application will be developed to incorporate new features in the future. In addition to allowing users to communicate and share information through a smartphone, save every interaction through a history (timeline)
just where they can be fully searchable.
Telefonica recent activity has not only a challenged independent applications like IM and WhatsApp, Skype, Viber, or Blackberry Messenger but it’s also competing with Joyn, the service developed by mobile operators’ association
GSMA, which also allows conversations free media and shipping network through cellular networks under the standard RCS-e.
"These are complementary services. Facilities offer similar but not identical. With TU me, for example, you can make voice calls over Internet (VoIP) at the same time you send a video ", the sources
said.
"It is the only application of its kind that stores the content in the cloud (cloud) to always be available when you want to access it, even if the mobile device is lost. It is also the only one that allows the
user to make calls, send voice messages and instant messages, share photos and locations from a single control and a single screen, without opening other applications or tabs ".
And while these services directly affects the juicy profit margins of operators, especially as far as SMS is concerned, they are compensated by forcing their customers to have a flat rate monthly data, i.e. a fixed income
and insurance, regardless of consumption.
