Mumtaz Bhutto merges party with PML-N
Wednesday, May 9th, 2012 2:40:22 by Faisal FarooqMumtaz Bhutto, the chief of Sindh National Front (SNF) and cousin of former prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto merged his party with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), giving a shock to the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
While addressing a public gathering, he observed, “Today I announce the merger of my party, which I kept alive with my blood and sweat, with the PML-N. I consulted the executive committee and my friends and on their advice I have made this decision.”
Bhutto said that President Asif Ali Zardari was not eligible for holding any public office, adding the country’s leadership had taken no solid steps to arrest those behind the killing of Benazir Bhutto.
In his view, the incumbent leadership didn’t know anything except how to loot the country, adding that he was labeled as Sindhi nationalist contrary to the facts that he was strong supporter of federation.
Mumtaz Bhutto was of the opinion that federating units were still deprived of their rights despite the passage of 18th amendment to the Constitution. He also commended the Nawaz Sharif, saying that he was impressed by statement given by him on different occasions.
PML-N President Nawaz Sharif while speaking to the public gathering said that his party had merged with the Sindh National Front. He reciprocated Mumtaz Bhutto’s statement that he will work under Nawaz Sharif; he stated that the PML-N will work under the supervision of Mumtaz Bhutto.
He further said he loved Mumtaz Bhutto because he always stood by his principles and let his stance weaken. He commented, “Together we will build Sindh and build Pakistan. I am pleased to know that Mumtaz’s stance on giving more rights and power to the provinces is same as the PML-N”.
Nawaz Sharif was of the opinion that he should have gotten the sympathy vote that the people of Sindh gave to President Asif Ali Zardari after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
The President bagged the sympathy vote, otherwise, it was me who sat with Benazir and signed Charter of Democracy (CoD) to initiate a programme for the betterment and prosperity of masses.
According to the media reports, negotiations between the PML-N and SNF over seat adjustments had reached a stalemate earlier as the Bhutto sought the party’s chairmanship in the province.
