Jamie Finn expects “TU me” to be successful
Thursday, May 10th, 2012 6:36:44 by Farasat AliTelefonica has announced their new service that will enable the users to make free calls as compared to consolidated applications WhatsApp or Skype. The Spanish multinational surpassed different challenges on their way.
The first challenge was to attract their huge customer base, over 250 million in 25 countries. However, Telefonica has promised to preinstall TU me at all terminals marketed to its subscribers both the brand O2 and Movistar in
Spain, Europe and Latin America.
"We will act very differently from the past. Our millions of customers will know when they will see that service on their phone through Telefonica.” Jamie Finn, director of Digital Phone and Head of the project was quoted as saying.
Finn is also aware of the fact that TU me is also a challenge to the waterline own business of Telefonica, after which they could lose revenue from invoiced for calls and short messages (SMS). But he also knows that the rise of
free services for mobile Internet is unstoppable.
"The world is changing. People have already decided what services they want to use. And we cannot afford not to be in the market.” said Finn.
But apart from the mark, TU me wants to challenge their rival for its technology and versatility. "We are the only service that allows a single control from sending messages, photos and locations, free calls and voice messages. And
it’s the cheapest and safest solution. As we are an operator, the data is encrypted and stored in our data centres to be accessible at any time, "says Finn.
However, the competition is mounting and the challenge is great after Apple launched iMessenger despite being a failure last year. It failed perhaps because it can only be used in devices of their own brand, just like Blackberry
Messenger and Google Talk, which is only reliable on Android phones.
