UN mission chief condemns Damascus blast
Thursday, May 10th, 2012 6:48:18 by Taimoor TariqThe latest act of violence has been devastating for the Syrian capital and the head of UN observer mission has called it a deplorable act
Members of the monitoring team went to visit the site of two blasts that hit the Syrian capital this Thursday.
Dozens of people have been killed in this heinous act in a country that is struggling to maintain order.
“This is a terrible kind of violence, that is deplorable. My very clear message to anyone that is engaging in this kind of violence is that it is not going to solve any problems,” said Major General Robert Mood, Head of the UN Mission to Syria.
The attack came just a day after an explosion hit vehicles that were accompanying UN observers’ convoy in the southern province of Deraa. Eight Syrian soldiers were injured in that explosion.
Currently, there are 70 UN military observers present in Syria while 30 more are expected to arrive. Their mission is to oversee the recently imposed ceasefire. However, with the violence showing no signs to come to an end, it seems that a solution is a
long way off.
