Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said Article 58-2b, which allowed a president to dissolve the assemblies, is no longer part of the Constitution, therefore, he couldn’t hand this power to the court.

His remarks, which he uttered while speaking to the media persons in London, hinted heavily at a fighting mood. Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif want to become prime ministers without becoming MNAs, he added.

Later he addressed the parliamentarians at the British House of the Commons, saying that he had come to the United Kingdom on the invitation of Prime Minister David Cameron to further the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD).

The two countries have jointly decided to increase bilateral trade and investment, aiming to take trade to 2.5 billion pounds within a short span of three-year period. The premier commended role of UK played in the promotion of Pakistani trade with European Union.

He observed, “We are also together in the common fight against terrorism and extremism. The democratic government has created national ownership to this campaign and has brought all stakeholders on board. Our Parliament has recently reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the elimination of terrorism and combating extremism in pursuance of our national interest”.

He referred to terrorism and regional relationships, saying Pakistan was committed in eliminating terrorism and in enhancing its ties with its neighboring countries, particularly Afghanistan and India.

In his view, the solution to the problems of Afghanistan will have to come from within Afghanistan itself. Pakistan was making an utmost effort to resolve all issues, including Jammu and Kashmir, he said pointing out new phase of dialogue with India.

Gilani assured that they had not repeatedly said that Pakistan would not permit its territory to be used for any kind of attacks on other countries and it expects that the soil of other countries would not be used against them.

Taking credit of the entire show, he said he there is not a single political prisoner in the country while media is completely enjoying freedom of expression.

In his view, the civil society is robust and human rights organizations’ assertions are making qualitative difference as far as the human rights are concerned, he added.
