Islamabad: National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources on Thursday recommended that the federal government or create a new Ministry of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), making it completely independent of and under the control
of the Ministry of Oil to put a check on the massive corruption going on in the power .
These recommendations were given at a meeting of the parliamentary body of Sardar Hussein Taliban Naka in his chair.
Committee members also noted that the restriction officials were involved in massive corruption. Members also noted that as a restriction within the jurisdiction of the office of authority by the Prime Minister himself.
The agenda of the meeting was "a detailed briefing on the restriction, together with its associated bodies.
Briefing the Parliamentary Group, Oil Minister Hussain Dr Asim said that the restriction is not directly under the control of his ministry and, therefore, on several counts, Oil Ministry is not responsible for the actions taken by the regulatory authority.
When asked, Dr. Hussain said that the parliament can reduce petroleum Levy (PL), because it was part of the last budget, adding that as a general sales tax (GST) on various petroleum products, then, after the 18th Constitutional Amendment Provinces receive
70 percent of the total cost, and if the provinces are ready to reduce its stake, the federal government will go after him.
The Committee took serious notice of the absence of the Secretary Cabinet Nargis web and noticed that she had never attended a meeting of the parliamentary committee.
Committee on the proposal of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) member Zhamshed Dusty unanimously decided to issue a warrant for the Secretary to the Cabinet of Ministers, adding that the committee members for the past four years, wrote 50 letters to the Prime
Minister on the issue of the lack of high-level government officials with meetings of the committee, but complained that the Prime Minister has taken no action against these officers so far.
Dusty accused federal Finance Minister Dr Hafeez Sheikh in the theft and corrupt at the time of the meeting. Dusty’s point of view was supported by other members of the committee, including Rana Afzal, the main opposition party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz-(PML-N).
