Amir Khan: I have the strategy to beat Floyd Mayweather junior

The Bolton’s finest Amir Khan has got his WBA Super & IBF Light Welterweight titles back as his fight with Lamont Peterson has been cancelled after the American came positive on the drug test. However, Khan has now set his sight on Floyd Mayweather, a five-division world champion and the newly crowned WBA super welterweight champion.

Mayweather, more commonly known as Money, holds an incredible record of winning all of his 43 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. He is also considered as one of the most difficult boxers to hit in the ring yet Khan believes he has the tools to beat him in the ring.

“My ambition is wanting to fight Floyd Mayweather and I know I have the strategy to beat him,” Khan said. “I know I have the confidence, I have the skills, the speed, the power, and I know I’ll bring something else to the table.”

“Most of these guys who he’s fighting, they go into the fight beaten. I’ll go into the fight confident.”

Mayweather was pushed to the full distance by Miguel Cotto on May 5 and the American after the fight admitted that Cotto gave him one of his toughest tests to date, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Hall of Fame trainer, Freddie Roach.

Roach, who trains Khan, too believes his man is going to outclass Mayweather in the ring.

“I see Floyd’s legs beginning to go (at 35) and him slowing up a little,” Roach said. “We’ll do this one more fight and then go up to welterweight. If we get him as early as December, Amir can beat him.”

Well, all said and done, Amir Khan always wanted to take on Mayweather but his dreams were quashed by Peterson last year. So let’s see if he moves up to the 147lbs division in order to search for a big fight.
