David Hussey optimistic about KXIP’s chances for playoffs

Kings XI Punjab skipper David Hussey is confident about his team’s chances of qualifying for the play-off stage of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

His comments came in the wake of KXIP’s stunning win over Deccan Chargers in a crucial game on Sunday. Batting first, the Chargers piled up a massive total of 190, thanks to brilliant batting by Shikhar Dhawan and Cameron White.

In reply, the Punjab side achieved the target on the last ball of the game. Enormously delighted over his side’s wonderful triumph, Hussey said that his team can still sneak into the playoffs.

“We got three big games, you never know, we could sneak into the finals [playoffs]," Hussey said after he led his side to a four-wicket win with an unbeaten 35-ball 65 at the PCA stadium.

Gurkeerat Singh was star of the show for the Punjab side. The young lad scored crucial 29 runs when his was in deep trouble. The Punjab skipper was all praise for Singh, saying that the young man is a future superstar for Kings XI Punjab.

"He [Gurkeerat] is a real player for the future for us. He made it look real easy. We showed our fighting qualities today," the Aussie stated.

On the other hand, Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara was disappointed over his bowlers’ below par effort. He was not reluctant to admit that his bowlers did not bowl well towards the end of the innings.

"We were poor with the ball at the back end and Huss [Hussey] and the young boy [Gurkeerat] made us pay. We were in control for most of the game but you need to hit your Yorkers," the Sri Lanknan said.

The skipper also shared that giving 19^th over to Dale Steyn was a part of the team strategy. He insisted that he made that move in order to save maximum number of runs for the final over.

"You always bowl your best bowler in the penultimate bowler and get the run-rate high enough for the final over," shared the classy left-hander who is yet to play a big knock in the tournament.
