Persisting power outages; PML-Q mulls quitting govt. coalition

Rawalpindi: Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) yesterday threatened the government of quitting the coalition if the government failed to address the electricity load-shedding issue within a fortnight.

Threatening the government of withdrawing their support, while addressing a party workers’ convention in Dhamial, Senior Federal Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said, “Don’t force us to quit the government as we cannot face the
people in general elections.”

The party’s workers from Attock, Rawalpindi, Jehlum and Chakwal were invited on the occasion.

The former chief minister of Punjab said that his party has made it clear that they could not go for elections with the people facing worst load shedding.

He said, “We have proposed to the federal government to even compromise on development schemes for arranging payments to ease loadshedding.”

Commenting on Punjab government’s recent reactions over the load shedding protests, the senior federal minster said that the PML-N was only trying to gain political mileage from the problem.

He said, “It is for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a ruling party itself is organizing and leading public protests damaging both public and private properties in Punjab.”

He was of the view that if Punjab paid its due share to ease loadshedding, the situation could have been improved by now, however, he said that the Sharif brothers were only busy in blame games.

Pervaiz blamed the Punjab government that they had double faces as they provoked the people against federal government but did not pay the province share.

Criticizing the economic policies of the province, the former chief minister Punjab said that four years ago when his tenure ended, the Punjab government had over 5 billion in its account, while now, the province was under debt
of about 160 billion rupees.

He also highlighted that the PML-N led government had failed to initiate any mega project for the people such as Rescue 1122, traffic wardens, patrolling police and free school education. Claiming that the Punjab government under
his tenure launched extensive development schemes, the present rulers were only busy in making money.
