Fernando Alonso defends Felipe Massa and Stefano Domenicali
Monday, May 14th, 2012 11:28:51 by Kashif KhanFernando Alonso has come out in defence of his team-mate Felipe Massa and their team boss Stefano Domenicali.
Massa has been struggling for some time now with his driving. Since 2009 Massa has been criticised over his driving and it has come to a point where the Brazilian has been warned by his president Luca di Montezemolo.
Massa’s burden increased when Ferrari’s 2012 car failed to live up to its hype. The Brazilian season so far has been poor as he has only scored 2 points. The points were scored in the recently concluded Bahrain GP.
Di Montezemolo at the backdrop of a poor Ferrari 2011 campaign said that the team needs to improve and come up with better performances for the 2012 season. That is why in the mid 2011 season Ferrari started to work on the 2012 car. The team’s technical director Pat Fry said the car will find it hard to score podiums and that put the pressure on Domenicali who has not been able to get a successful Ferrari campaign since he took over.
Alonso has come out in support of both his team members and said that both are the best at their jobs.
He said, “It’s easy to praise when you have a good car but also to criticise when you have a bad one. I lived similar situations during my last stint at Renault, when some of my team-mates were unfairly criticized and now, they are being praised once again.”
“Stefano’s work is fantastic in every sense and I can’t think of anyone better than him. As I explained before, it only takes one race to pass from criticism to praise. I’m very good friends with Flavio and we talk frequently. He’s one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met,” he added.
He further said that he has suffered the most at the beginning of the last season because of the injury he suffered to his sciatic nerve causing him a lot of pain at the end of the races. He remained optimistic for the future of his team members and wished them the best.
