Tim Burton: ‘Dark Shadows’ is about weird families
Monday, May 14th, 2012 12:32:48 by Waqas TariqDirector Tim Burton has insisted that his new movie ‘Dark Shadows’ is about weird families. He insisted that every family has a unique attribute and the movie explores that. The film’s genre is fantasy and it is about a vampire (Johnny Depp), who is set free after being buried alive for two centuries. He now has to protect his descendents.
Burton claimed that his film explores the nature of different families and admitted that this is a project he wanted to do for many years. The director, who is known for films like Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, added that he thoroughly enjoyed exploring the strangeness of a bizarre family and is looking forward to the release of the film.
“One of the reasons I wanted to do this [is that] it explores the weird natures of what families are – any family. I always thought my friends’ families were much better than mine, then you kind of dig into the surface and it’s like they’re all weird,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, the filmmaker hailed Johnny Depp for his versatility and admitted that he could not have made the movie without him. He stressed that Depp is fully committed to his roles and insisted that nobody else could have done it better than Depp.
“I could see right away that Johnny had a passion for Dark Shadows when he came to me, and he really wanted to do it – we’d been talking about doing it for a couple of years, several years. And he always puts 100% into his characters, so I was really excited what this one would be, Barnabas Collins, in this absurd time, with this family,” he concluded.
Dark Shadows released worldwide on May 11.
