Top five automakers with increase in sales: Chrysler surprises everyone by taking the lead spot – Part 2
Monday, May 14th, 2012 6:37:02 by Usman KhalidThe astounding fact of the car is the boosted up sales of its signature brands, Chrysler 200 and Chrysler 300. Sales of Chrysler brand cars are up 149 percent this year, while sales of the Fiat 500 are up by 818 percent over 2011.
Taking the second spot was Toyota. Though the company still holds the first spot in market share with 16.4 percent slice of the sales pie, but it could only show a success rate of 1.1 percentage points over the same period in 2011.
The hot brands like 2012 Camry and the extended line of choices in the Prius family are some of the main reasons why the Japanese brand sustained its grip on the top spot in sales.
To everybody’s surprise, the third spot went to Korean automakers, Kia. The company holds 5.4 percent share of the market, which is 1.1 percentage point gain over last year, same as Toyota. However, due to less sales, it could only settle for the third position.
The best selling Kia brand this year has been the Soul, hatchback having a simple design with more pointed edges. Kia has seen its car sales go up by 46.6 percent this year compared with 2011.
The fourth and fifth spots have been secured by two Japanese carmakers, Mazda and Subaru, which is completely out of the blue. Both gained 0.5 and 0.4 percentage points, respectively.
Mazda secured a market share of 3 percent this year which is 0.5 percent more than 2011. The main reason for the gain is the success of Mazda 3.
Subaru, on the other hand, increased its share 0.4 percent to 3.4 percent. The company receive stellar ratings this year from Consumer Reports, which helped boost up its sales entering into 2012.
