Lenovo IdeaPad Y480: Full Review of the first Ivy Bridge laptop from Lenovo – Part 3
Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 5:36:13 by Usman KhalidY480 sports the high-end quad-core Core i7 processor and 8 GB of RAM that is no joke in specs and is at par with all the other high-end and professional notebooks. However, screen-res leaves something to desire. But that’s not the issue when it comes to performance.
The standard Adobe Photoshop CS5 image-processing test, the laptop secured second position following Origin EON17-S by posting 151 second to complete the task opposed to 129 by the leader. In multi-tasking, the main competition was again between the same players. Origin posted 295 seconds as opposed to Y480’s 325.
The NVIDIA GeForce GPU paid dividends in high-end gaming. As the resolution maxes out at 1,366×768, the laptops played Street Fighter IV at 59.8 frames per second. The extremely overclocked Origin rendered the service at an incredible rate of 216 fps. Asus G75V and Toshiba Qosmio managed to beat Lenovo with their respective rates of 99.5 and 60 fps. However, they were still behind Origin.
Lenovo includes an industry-standard one-year parts and labor warranty with the system. Support is accessible through a 24-7 toll-free phone line, an online knowledge base, and driver downloads.
Conclusion
Though the screen resolution is a step back by Lenovo especially in the presence of a dedicated graphics card but in terms of performance and ergonomics, the IdesPad Y480 is a good bargain for $999.
