Mark Renshaw of Team Rabobank is amongst a number of cyclists that have withdrawn from the ongoing Giro d’Italia 2012.
The cyclist is having a dry season and his only win came during the stage 4 of the Tour of Turkey 2012.
He had to face the disappointment at the Italian Grand Tour and has now decided to test his legs at the Tour de France 2012.
The Australian managed to secure a podium spot during the 121 kilometre chase to Cervere which is best performance at this year’s Giro.
Mark Cavendish of Team Sky secured the top overall spot and bagged his third stage victory at the contest.
He finished the race in a quickest time of 3 hours, 2 minutes and 7 seconds while Alexander Kristoff of Team Katusha and Mark Renshaw of Team Rabobank occupied the second and the third spots.
Mark Renshaw has served as a lead-out man for Cavendish during the past season and the Manxman truly miss the services of his former team-mate and best friend.
“I miss him, not only in the race but also because he is a friend. Mark is the best mate you could have and I always have a great feeling when he is around,” Cavendish noted.
Renshaw’s struggling form is evident after his 159th overall position after the stage 13 classifications.
He is 1 minute and 32 seconds behind the race leader Joaquim Rodriguez after the end of the 13th stage of the race.
The 29-year-old has noted that his although he was keen to perform at the Italian race but his major goal of the season is the Tour de France 2012.
Mark told Sporza.de, “I’ve finished a busy schedule this year, but my biggest goal is still to come and that is the Tour, I am satisfied with my performance here at the Giro”.
“In the Tour, the speed for the sprint is much higher speed. If you can get a good position, then it is easier to hold onto. That suits me better”, he concluded.
The 2012 edition of the Tour de France is scheduled from June 30th to July 22 and only time will tell if Renshaw finds the right momentum for the French event.
