Islamabad: (Wednesday, May 16, 2012) The already non-available electricity is going to be costlier further as the Water and Power Ministry has increased the electricity tariffs by Rs 1.25 per unit. According to the news, the increase
will be applicable with immediate effect.
As per the notification issued today by ministry of water and power, the notification for the increase is applicable across the country including Karachi. With this present increase, while the tariff has increased to Rs 8.83, the
government still claims to pay a subsidy of Rs 3.08 per unit.
With the present price hike in energy prices being effective, the government will be able to collect Rs 90 billion extra every year.
According to the sources at ministry of water and power, the lifeline consumers will be excluded from this increase.
