Top 5 cars that are high on speed and light on fuel – Part 1
Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 5:47:04 by Usman KhalidThe general perception is that the fast the car runs the more it consumes fuel. This particular notion has been nullified by the latest research done on some top line sports cars like the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
The list of five has been culled from the host of fastest sports cars including Lamborghini Aventedor and Aston Martin V12 Vantage, though these cars could not make it to the list because of their fuel swilling nature.
Most of the sports cars these days are not only fast on tarmac but are also lenient on the fuel gauge. The major reason for such an approach from car makers is the hiking oil prices that are still hovering over $4 per barrel mark and are expected to jump to $5 per barrel in the near future.
Though those who can afford the likes of Porsches and Lambos can also afford fuel in the $5 or $6 price range, let alone $4, but for automakers fuel efficiency is of paramount importance for a number of reasons. The Environment Protection Agency is always looming around these companies to improve the fuel consumption for better and greener cars.
Moreover, the better the fuel efficiency the more these cars sell. Not all sports car owners can afford hungry cars that dwell on the owner’s wallet. The cars that adorn the fuel-friendly list of ten are undoubtedly faster on the road that a normal sedan or crossover, with an average power thrust from the engines that take them from 0 to 60 miles per hour in well under 6 seconds, which is impressive then mileage reads a figure above 20 miles per gallon.
Porsche Carrera S 2013 model, for example, does 20 and 27 mpg in city and highway, respectively. Although that is less efficient than a normal mid-sized sedan, much less a hybrid, but it also get you from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
