Islamabad: (Thursday, May 17, 2012) Hearing the Air Marshal Asghar Khan petition against the money distributed by the ISI to rig the elections today, the Supreme Court asked the government to provide the notification letter on
the creation of a political cell in the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) by then Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto back in May 1975.
The apex court has directed the govt. to hand over the letter so as the reasoning behind the creation of the cell can be determined.
The court further said that if the Habib Bank reports are not submitted by May 19, a case will be registered with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
Earlier, the Habib Bank president was asked to provide the bank report on the transactions that took place in Habib Bank in 1990s.
In this regards, the governor State Bank of Pakistan was also asked to intervene.
The Ministry of Defence has been asked to produce a statement on the claims made by the former ISI chief Lieutenant General (retd) Assad Durrani. Yesterday, Durrani had conceded to the two secret agencies role (ISI and MI) in rigging
the 1990 parliamentary elections.
