Bollywood not happy with Ashwarya Rai over her post-pregnancy weight gain

Bollywood actress and the former Miss World Ashwarya Rai is all set to make an appearance at the Cannes festival as a debate about her weight rages.

Ashwarya has appeared at the film festival 10 times before so there will be nothing new for her. However, this time her appearance on the red carpet will certainly be the most talked.

The actress is not appearing up at the Cannas to receive an award but she is going there to promote a cosmetic brand.

Ashwarya, who was once the face of Indian cinema, gave birth to a baby girl six months back and since the time she is constantly putting on weight as a result to which many out there are not happy at all.

A majority of people in the country are of the view that Ashwarya, who occupies a special place in Indian popular culture, should perhaps follow the likes of Kate Middleton or Victoria Beckham. Perhaps the reason behind is because they thinks may be Ashwarya has an obligation to her fans to lose weight.

“Aishwarya is like a goddess,” said Show business columnist Shobhaa De.

“She is held up as the ideal of beauty and so there is an expectation on her to look perfect at all times.”

“She is a Bollywood actress and it is her duty to look good and fit,” suggested one commenter. Another added: “She needs to learn from people like Victoria Beckham who are back to size zero weeks after their delivery.”

“There is a glorification of motherhood in India and Indian cinema,” said cinema professor Shohini Ghosh. “But people are confused because they don’t know whether to glorify Aishwarya in her new motherhood or lament that she is not looking like a runway model.”

Well, all said and done, let’s see how Ashwarya Rai deals with all the criticism after her appearance.
