Vidya Balan ‘Kahaani’ to be remade in Tamil, Telugu versions

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is on cloud nine these days as her latest film ‘Kahaani’, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is now going to be remade in Telugu and Tamil versions.

A well-reputed TV production company Endemol India has recently bought rights for the remake of the movie ‘Kahaani’, which was released on March 9.

The CEO of Endemol India, Deepak Dhar, confirmed the news to the media.

“After having produced content for some of the biggest format shows in the country, we realised it was time for us to venture into something new,” said Deepak Dhar, CEO, Endemol India.

“Filmmaking was always on the cards and we are delighted to finally set out to actually do it. We are already lining up projects for 2013 and are extremely excited about our first project, the remake of ‘Kahaani’, which will be in production soon,” he added.

Vidya Balan starrer ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released into the cinemas last year, is also being remade in Bengali and Tamil versions and Ekta Kapoor, who co-produced the movie with Shobha Kapoor, was not happy at all with the news. However, Ghosh has no problems with the remake of ‘Kahaani’. Perhaps the reason behind is because he will be working with a leading director from the south Indian film industry.

“I’m delighted to know that the film and the ‘Kahaani’ franchise are being handled by a reputed name in the entertainment industry like Endemol India,” Ghosh said in a statement.

“This association will help us reach out to audiences in the south. Here’s looking forward to great success,” he added.

Endemol India, which is famously known for making television shows like ‘Bigg Boss’ and ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi’, is set to roll the remakes on floors in September and both versions of the film will be released next year.

Currently the company is having negotiations with some leading southern actors for the lead role in ‘Kahaani’.
