Sony Xperia P 2012: Full Review – Part 2

Under the 4-inch screen are capacitive buttons for Home, Return and Menu. It is noticeable to mention that unlike the Xperia U, this handset has merges the icons and the actual buttons in one place. These buttons are on a typical-NXT-design band under the screen that has different colour choices at the disposal of the user.

The speakers are fixed at an awkward place, on the right edge of the phone. However, the sound quality has not been sacrificed rather is better than others in the market.

There unfortunately is not removable casing and the 1500 mAh battery is fixed inside the casing. Moreover, the phone is kept deprived of expandable memory as well. The storage is fixed at 16 GB.

Software and Features

The biggest shortfall in the new Xperia P is the operating system which is not the latest version of Google’ mobile OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. Instead, the new handset is decorated with Gingerbread 2.3 which does not make a shout to the audience.

Though the company has stated that the ICS update is on its way, it has equipped the phone with custom features in the Gingerbread like instant shots on lock screen and folder creation by dragging icons on the top of each other.

HSPA, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi are the standard issue, and the device comes in only one version with 16 GB storage capacity. As it lacks micro-SD card slot, it is left with only 13 GB of total space for the user to utilize. Moreover, it has near-field communications (NFC) chip inside for instant communication with the namesake transmitters for quick transaction and transfer of media and other stuff.

The screen has what Sony calls WhiteMagic that gives the phone extra brightness to be usable in direct sunlight.
