Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster 2012: Full Review – Part 2
Saturday, May 19th, 2012 5:57:33 by Usman KhalidThough the V8 engine inside the hood is a step down from the V12 that is found in most of Aston Martin products, but the speeds it musters and the cornering mastery is gains lets the driver forget about the nitty gritty details.
The automatic manual transmission changeable either from the dashboard or the flappy paddles behind the steering wheel is a disappointment. The transmission takes like forever to shift from one gear to the other in the upward direction. The shift down is even worse, especially when extra acceleration is needed to overtake or simply gain speed. The car actually slows down to give a slight jolt to shift the gears, which forces the head forward in a very nagging manner.
Fortunately, the above problem is optional. The tuned down 5-speed manual gear box is a better option and instead of spending extra bucks on something that is more fuss than fun.
The best thing about the car though is the stereo system. Unfortunately, the midlevel sound system is optional. The base model of system brings 160 watts but midlevel takes that to 700 watts which produces quality stereo and surround sound. The audio system however, has only two external storage options, iPod/iPhone connectivity and a USB port. Though the options are less, the sound quality makes a louder statement that mutes the deficiencies in the background. The disappointment is that this V8 Vantage is a roadster but the stereo does not offer any open-top equalizer option. The sound mixes up the air noise when the hood is rolled back in the boot.
