Saturday, May 19th, 2012 11:43:45 by Faisal FarooqIn order to put the genie of sectarianism back into the bottle, top slot the religious leaders are set to launch a new non-political forum.
According to the reports, the proposed Islamic Front will help resolving bigoted sectarian differences by harmonizing Friday sermons in the mosques.
Furthermore, the panel will also work for implementation of the recommendations of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).
Former ameer of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmed while interviewing stated, “Nearly 40 leaders and representatives of politico-religious parties and groups have been invited to the conference, titled Ummah Unity and Islamic Solidarity”.
In reply to a query, he rejected the impression that the Islamic Front will be an adversary of the right-wing bloc, the Difa-i-Pakistan Council (DPC), or the renewal of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
He clarified, “It’ll not be a political grouping or an electoral alliance. It’s going to be an ideological platform which will work for safeguarding national interests and guide the nation in religious matters”.
In his view, the new right-wing block in the presence of DPC will make efforts to cool down sectarian differences by bringing different school of thoughts close to each other.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the powerful ameer of JI was of the opinion that the religious scholars will attempt to extinguish the fire of sectarianism in the country, particularly in Karachi, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and some tribal regions.
The upcoming Ummah Unity and Islamic Solidarity will have a reconciliation commission which will take immediate steps to resolve internal disputes among different schools of thoughts.
In order to explore the possibility of gelling together an Islamic Solidarity Front, a general council will be formed up, having representation from all schools of thought, he added.
Explaining the functions of new Islamic bloc, Qazi Hussain said a subcommittee will offer guidelines to prayer leaders for Friday sermons in light of the Holy Quran and traditions of the Prophet (PBUH).
At the same time, the proposed front will push the government for the implementation of Council of Islamic Ideology’s recommendations, he asserted.
In face of an onslaught from secular forces and a Western cultural invasion, the need of the hour is to protect the Islamic ideology of Pakistan, Qazi Hussain Ahmed added.
