Quetta: (Monday, May 21, 2012) The Advocate General told the Supreme Court Quetta today that around 16 missing persons were in custody of the security agencies.
Resuming the hearing today about missing persons and about the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan, Chief Justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, who is heading the bench, expressed his concerns over non
recovery of the missing persons despite the court’s utmost efforts.
The chief justice was of the view that despite contacting all the government agencies, no progress with regard to missing persons was a real point of concern.
In today’s development, the Chief Justice asked the advocate general to share any information he has about the missing persons, and the court will pass any order it has to. He also directed the AG to arrange compensation for the
journalists killed in the province in result of the target killings.
The chief justice also ordered the provincial secretaries for defence and interior to appear before the court tomorrow and to clear the allegations against them.
Naseebullah, the interior secretary, told the bench that incidents of crimes could not be curbed until mobile companies stop issuing as many as 60 SIMs to a single NIC.
Upon this, the CJ said that the licences of the mobile companies who fail to cooperate will be cancelled.
