The British singer and song writer Robin Gibb, who claimed world-wide popularity as a member of the Bee Gees, bid farewell to life on Sunday, May 20. He was 62-year old.
He was in the state of coma for a week during the last month of April. Gibb actually suffered from colon and liver cancer since 2011. Duo to the illness, he could not attend the London premiere last month, which was one of his classical works. He wrote
The Titanic Requiem, with the help of his son, Robin-John Gibb. At that time, he was reported to be suffering from pneumonia.
Gibb also tried his luck as a solo artist for quite some time, but it did not turn out to be huge success. He is still best known as a singer and songwriter for the Bee Gees, the band he formed with his brothers Barry and Maurice.
Despite financial success, Robin Gibb and his brothers underwent repeated tragedies. Maurice had a sudden death on account of cardiac arrest in 2003. Their younger brother Andy Gibb, who also enjoyed considerable chart success as a solo artist, had died
at the age 30 in 1988. Reportedly, the inflamed heart muscle attributed to a severe viral infection and eventually led him to death.
Robin Gibb himself took care of his health and, at the time of his death, was a vegetarian who did not drink alcohol.
The band Bee Gees was formed in the late 1960s in Britain. Bee Gees were shot to fame in the 1970s when they produced the soundtrack for
Saturday Night Fever and hit song Stayin’ Alive. The trio were known for their harmonies and remarkably high voices on hits such as
I Started a Joke, You Should be Dancin’ and Jive Talkin’.
