Karachi: (Monday, May 21, 2012) After about a year of Mehran Base attack in Karachi, a military court hearing the case, served three officers with court-martial.
As per details, an investigation team comprising of Police, Navy and air force and intelligence agencies, probing into the unfortunate incidence, found out that the attack on the base happened due to the negligence of the Base
Commander Commodore Raja Tahir, Commanding officer Israr, and Air Base Security officer Lieutenant Commander Absar. Had it not been for their negligence and irresponsible behavior, the attack could have been averted.
It has been learnt through sources that the court had handed down the stated sentences a few days ago, in line with Pakistan Navy laws. They also said that the defendants were given equal chances of clearing their stances.
While the three officers have been sentenced, details regarding the extent of their punishments are yet to be received. However, it has been disclosed that they have not been given a jail term.
On May 22 last year, as many as 10 terrorists managed to storm in the naval base Karachi. They held of the security officials for over 17 hours, rendering the bases poorer by two P3C Orion surveillance aircraft in the process.
The attack also culminated in the death of 17 personnel.
