Danny O’Donoghue blasts X Factor
Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 4:41:20 by Waqas Tariq‘The Script’ singer has launched an attack on the rival show after comments from Simon Cowell claiming that the BBC show is a rip-off of the X Factor. Cowell stated that his show and ‘The Voice’ have great similarity and admitted that BBC has copied their show to gain popularity.
O’Donoghue responded to critics claiming that he has been ‘too nice’ on the show and stated that this is the way he is. He insisted that the judges have decided not to create drama when they announce their decision and want to make it as real as possible.
“The stance we’ve taken is that you can deliver bad news in a good way. Maybe it’s not great for ratings but we had a 17-year-old on our show and she wasn’t great. Are we going to destroy her so she couldn’t walk down the street? Absolutely not,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to The Sun.
The singer criticised X Factor and branded the show as ‘scripted’. He admitted that the rival show is fake and they act upon a script which is already decided.
“I could only be on The X Factor if I could be me and not have to stick to a particular script. I’m sure on other shows they all sit back and watch the VTs (video tapes) about what’s going on that day and decide in the room what to say beforehand,” he continued.
The judge added that what people see on ‘The Voice’ is real and claimed that the judges do not play up to the cameras.
“We don’t. We made a clear decision that the reactions you see are instant ones. I won’t play up (to the cameras). That’s not what music is about. Music isn’t a pantomime,” he concluded.
‘The Voice’ has seen ratings plunge in the Live Shows after an impressive start to the show.
