Alex Rasmussen has responded on Frank Schleck’s accusations related to the 11th stage of the Giro d’Italia 2012.
The Luxembourg professional cyclist blamed Rasmussen for his dipping performance during the 243 kilometre pursuit to Montecatini Terme.
Andy was holding the 13th overall position after the stage 10 and the cyclist is now dropped down to the 23rdoverall position after his 95th position during the 11th stage of the race.
While commenting on Schleck’s accusations, Alex told Feltet.dk, “It’s totally a lie; it was not that way at all”.
“The crash occurred on a bend shortly before we went out on the last lap, when he came and ran straight into the side of me and ran my derailleur off”.
“He’s actually the lucky one, because nothing happened to him nothing and he could continue to ride away”.
“I had to remain standing to change my bike and thus could not help more on the stage”.
“At that time I had handed Ryder (Hesjedal ed.) to the front, and was about to fall quietly back in the box”.
The Dane noted that Schleck was in a panic because he was already far behind and ran into him in the sense of urgency.
Alex also mentioned that the only reason why Frank is upset is because he has lost crucial time but it is only because of his own fault.
However, Frank is looking at the matter differently; he explained that just before the start of the final lap Rasmussen’s team-mate Christian Vande launched him to the front.
The swap created a wall in the middle of the bunch which was the main reason behind the collision.
The Luxembourg cyclist was unlucky as he caught up in another crash in the final kilometres and could not recover in time because he was in the middle of the peloton.
Frank Schleck is currently holding the 23rd overall position after the stage 11 classifications and is now 2 minute and 11 seconds behind the race leader Joaquim Rodriguez of Team Katusha.
The 32-year-old is a serious contender for an overall victory at the race and is determined to cut down the lead for the coming stages of the Giro d’Italia 2012.
