Kimi Raikkonen says too early to judge success at Monaco
Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012 5:04:51 by Kashif KhanKimi Raikkonen is confident that Lotus will be able to come up with a strong showing in the season but remains in doubt of how it will perform at the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Finn has been able to secure two podium finishes in his first year back in the sport after a two year hiatus. It has been a remarkable comeback helped by a strong Lotus car for the 2012 season but still it has been quite an exciting show from Raikkonen who was still considered as one of the most talented drivers in contemporary Formula 1.
Raikkonen by many is considered to be one of the favourites for the Monte Carlo circuit but the man himself feels that it is too early to judge whether his Lotus E20 will have enough to secure a victory at the venue.
“Monaco is a little bit different and it’s hard to say how it will go there,” he said. “The team has done a good job so far and we still have work to do and things to improve.”
“So far it’s going well and I’m happy with it. OK, we’re not 100 per cent satisfied with it because we are not winning but that’s a very normal thing and I’m pleased for the team. To be on the podium twice already is good. Unfortunately you’re not always going to get there. If you get the chance, you should take it because it’s not every race that you will be able to fight for that position,” he added.
He added that he hopes that the team goes on to push just has hard as it has been so far. It is going to be a matter of time before the team gets the desired results in the season. The car is strong and has made good progress so far.
History is on Enstone’s side as it has done well over the years at Monaco but the previous year car was not good enough and struggled. The team might have to work hard to overcome that this year. Lotus is introducing a special high downforce wing specifically designed for the Monaco track.
It will be interesting to see how they fare on the race day.
