Thursday, May 24th, 2012 9:07:13 by Awais KhanThe struggle between SAP and Oracle, the two software business companies, took another turn as the German giants bought one of the
few European multinationals that maintain the international pulse.
SAP has reached an agreement to buy Ariba in a deal valued at 3.4 Billion euros, in an attempt to shorten the distance with Oracle who in recent years have grown on the back of a lot of acquisitions.
However, the goal now is of another sort: the services software in the cloud, which was born with Salesforce.com and Ariba has made its name as a specialized brand. In
principle, it was proposed that SAP will pay $45 per share which was unanimously approved by the management of Ariba.
It is reported that Oracle will now go for Larry Ellison, while an attack by Oracle on Salesforce cannot be ruled out as well.
The acquisition comes
on the back on another Oracle takeover, in this scenario the said comapany is
Taleo, a cloud computing software services company with a strong salesforece. The acquisition has been valued at 1.5 billion euros.
