Islamabad: (Thursday, May 24, 2012) Responding to US’s condemnation of sentencing Dr Afridi for his involvement in facilitating the CIA to find Osama Bin Laden, the foreign office spokesperson said today that the United States
should show respect towards a Pakistani court’s decision to imprison Dr Afridi.
Stressing that there should be show of mutual respect for each other’s legal process and judicial system, Moazzam Ali Khan said, “I think as far as the case of Afridi is concerned, it was in accordance with Pakistani laws and by
the Pakistani courts, and we need to respect each other’s legal processes.”
The decision to sentence Dr Afridi irked a few US officials who had earlier admitted his involvement in the Abbotabad raid and had called for his security.
After a Pakistani tribal court sentenced Dr Afridi to 33 years imprisonment yesterday, Victoria Nuland, Us State Department spokesperson said that there was no basis for Dr Afridi to be held. Going a step farther, the US Congressman
Dana Rohrabacher declared it a “decisive proof that Pakistan sees itself as being at war” with the US.

I feel sorry for the citizens of Pakistan. For their leaders to hide a mass murderer like bin Laden and then to imprison the man who helped bring him to justice means they simply don’t care what happens to their fellow countrymen. I didn’t think Pakistan’s international reputation could sink much lower but…
