Dereck Chisora’s trainer says he doesn’t need British Board of Control

Dereck Chisora’s trainer, Don Charles, has passed on passed on a flattering statement in which he has said that he would have no problems even if he will have to operate under a foreign license for the rest of his life.

Charles gave this warning to British Boxing Board of Control because his man’s upcoming fight with the former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye is not being sponsored by BBBofC since neither pugilist possesses a British boxing license.

Chisora’s license was withdrawn for his misbehavior before and after his February bout with Vitali Klitschko whereas Haye walked away from the sport last year in October and now their fight, which will take place on July 14 at the West Ham’s Upton Park, is being sponsored by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation.

Nevertheless, Charles is not worried at all as he says he is fine with any organization who can provide him with money.

“I’ve always made my personal opinion quite clear,” Charles told ESPN. “The board have taken the wrong stance. They should look at it, review it, and they need to change that decision. I for one am going to work at that show [Haye v Chisora]. Why? I’ve had ten hard years training Chisora, I’m not about to walk away from my fighter on his biggest day.

“I would take a licence from whoever lets me make a living – at the end of the day, it’s what I do for a living, so [it’s about] whoever will give me a licence and let me carry out my job as a boxing trainer.

“I’d prefer to have a British licence, I live in Britain and I think they do a really good job anyway with boxing in this country. It’s a shame, because I’m a romantic, and feel the board should drop all the problems they have.”

Well, all said and done, let’s see how BBBofC responds to this statement from Don Charles.
