Yahoo rolls out new browser for iOS, named Axis – Part 2
Thursday, May 24th, 2012 4:31:25 by Usman KhalidAndroid works on simpler lines than iOS. Any third-party browser can be made default on the operating system. But Yahoo is still working on how to cater to Google’s own Chrome browser. In addition, Google might not be all embracing the new Axis as the company itself is investing top dollar in marketing and advertising Chrome.
So what’s so different about the new Axis browser? The answer is a different approach on how we search on the internet. What Yahoo has done is that it has made the web search much more interactive and visual and instead of moving to and fro between search result pages and the actual web pages for the desired query, Axis provides a different alternative with more visual and less hassle.
Once the search has been typed into the text box, it will display results in a frame, with top-match options. Every match has a description and visual thumbnails for the websites containing that content. So it is not so different from a conventional browser except its is graphical.
Here’s the difference. Once a thumbnail is tapped, on a mobile device, or clicked, on a desktop browser, the web page opens in a new frame within the same window and the search results slide away. However, if the web page is not to the desire of the user, the thumbnails can again be summoned to move to other results by just swiping from the top address bar down to the middle of the screen.
This way, Yahoo has overcome the slackly and more time consuming procedure of search pages and replaced it with a very intuitive and innovative new process. It is a matter to wonder, why the likes of Mozilla and Google didn’t think of it. However, the answer is very reasonable.
