Peshawar: (Friday, May 25, 2012) The Khyber Pahtunkhwa government has directed the police to nab all the foreigners living illegally in Pakistan.
This crackdown has been launched a month after the District Coordination Officer – Siraj Ahmed Khan had given a deadline to all foreigners who lacked valid visas and were living in Pakistan. Issuing a warning, the DCO had made
it clear that all those who will fail to produce valid documentation or refugee cards would be arrested.
Today, as the deadline expired, the police launched an operation to hunt down all those people who were living in and outside the provincial capital without proper approval.
Sharing details of this operation with the journalists, Feroz Shah, the Public Relations Officer to the DCO said that as the deadline had expired, a number of foreigners who lacked proper documents to stay in Pakistan had been
arrested. He further said that the crackdown was still underway and the police was ordered not to favour anyone.
Informing the media personnel that the operation was conducted and arrests were being made under the Foreigners Act, Feroz said that most of those arrested were Afghan refugees.
