Under the hood is a lot of muscle that brings the computer to centre stage. For around $1900 you get two 750GB hard drives that rev at 7,200rpm with 8GB of ExpressCache SSD for frequently used core functions, a generous 16GB of RAM, a quad-core third-gen Core i7-3610QM processor clocked at 2.3 GHz, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M graphics.
There are four USB ports, two 2.0 and two 3.0. A full array of video connectivity options with VGA, HDMI and Display Port. A Blu-Ray ROM is also present for direct gaming on the laptop; the BD ROM is not optional, it comes with the device. The display has a 1920×1080 full HD resolution, which does not disappoint in any case whatsoever.
Performance
Everything in any device boils down to the actual performance and this notebook is no exception. The Series 7 Gamer does not bring anything out of the ordinary to the table but it does have everything that is need for hardcore programming and gaming.
Multitasking works at blistering speeds for the buck paid and games run at high frames per second rates with display at full blast. Street Fighter IV churns out 161.5 fps on 1080p resolution. Other games outrun last year’s gaming laptops or the contemporary competition thereof.
Multi-tasking did not post exceptional timing but there was nothing disappointing about it, rather it was satisfying for a number of reasons. The Origin EON and Maingear EX-L 15 offer a bit superior performance but they also come a high cost above $2500.
Video watching is another plus on the Gamer. The 1080p native resolution justifies every penny paid and offers a smooth and fully detailed picture quality. The sound is even better than others. The stereo speakers with a sub-woofer underneath them might not be at par with large surround systems but they shout with clear voice. Either you are playing games or watching movies, you will not miss out on the action with those babies.
Multimedia multi-tasking, Adobe graphics test and GPU-hungry games posted normal results but considering the cost, which is still less than most of its competitors in the market, it confirmed itself as a good bargain.
